Resolve issues with Win 11 not maintaining CPU OC and power plan settings.
Analyzing data from a CPU monitoring timer inside an Intel processor is completely secure. Microsoft aimed to enhance security by restricting both reading and writing to these registers. It makes sense that someone would want to limit access for better protection. I see no valid justification for blocking the reading of these registers. Some registers were added to Microsoft’s register list without proper insight into their function. The outcome often leads to confusing behavior in various monitoring tools when Windows 11 is run with default settings. There should be no need for this restriction.
agreed I can understand how security features might be useful in an office environment, but for us who are into customizing or just learning about hardware, it caused more hassle than help. The huge changes needed to get Win 11 running properly felt excessive compared to what I experienced switching from Windows 7 to 10—it was straightforward and fewer problems arose. My I9 9900K CPU is a model that Intel charges extra for overclocking, and it seems like the operating system was trying to prevent that change, possibly for security reasons. I don’t see why a hacker would want to alter my CPU speed if they were already compromising my system. At least now I realize it wasn’t my hardware that was faulty or misleading me; it was just Windows trying to be cautious without providing the right details. About a month ago, I even reached out to Microsoft about this issue, but they only suggested reinstalling Windows 11, which didn’t solve anything.
