Consider your needs first—higher resolution like 1440p shines in lower quality settings, while 1080p performs better at maximum quality. Choose based on what matters most for your use case.

To decide between a 1440p and a 1080p display, consider your monitor size—around 24 inches—and balance quality with performance. For models like the Nitro+ 580 or Strix 1060, weigh the benefits of higher resolution against potential compromises in detail.

I favor lower resolution with plenty of lens flare. Or higher resolution with less.

1440p won't look great at high quality with those GPUs. Aim for a 1070/vega 56 instead.

1060 strixx plus 144/240 monitor at 24 inches is a solid setup. I’ve hit 1440p with a 1070 and it works great in competitive titles like CS:GO, Rocket League, and Dota 2—144 fps easily. However, newer games don’t perform as well. I own a 1440p display and a 1080p monitor (both 23.8 inches). Looking for a 144/240Hz setup with G-SYNC (1080p) would be perfect.

This screen is what I own. If I had purchased it at the time, I would have chosen this one.

It really doesn’t matter much whether you go with 1080p or 1440p in games. For a desktop setup, the difference is noticeable—especially if you want smooth 60 frames per second at high settings. The RX580 handles 1440p just fine when targeting that level.

I own a 4K TV paired with my One X, while my PC’s 1080p setup runs a GTX 1070. The order was swapped before, but many games I play on PC struggled in 4K. I miss the 4K experience on my PC, but this setup feels better balanced for my current gear and preferences (+ no extra stress). There’s no one-size-fits-all here; it really depends on each game and what gives you the best feel.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll keep using 1080p for now, even with the new monitor. Since I’m mostly looking at it from the front, a 24-inch screen seems reasonable. A 27-inch might feel a bit too big, and someone mentioned that 1080p at that size is noticeable. I’ll pick the GPU then and aim for a 24-inch setup with at least 60Hz and free sync if possible.
