I have an unclear point to confirm. My MacBook Air from 2017 has an Intel HD 6000 graphics card. The recommended external monitor resolution is up to 4K at 60fps. I’m wondering if a 3840x1080 or 5120x1440 monitor would work, even though those resolutions are under 4K. I’m not sure if pixel count alone matters here. Thanks for any advice!

Apologies for the misplacement. Could you relocate this to the GPU section if a moderator notices?

Generally, connecting an external monitor doesn’t cause problems with resolution matching. The main concern would be consuming too much V-Ram while running several monitors.

The approach would involve launching Windows via Boot Camp while keeping the laptop lid shut and relying solely on the external display. I was concerned mainly about whether an ultrawide screen would work well with the less common resolution options.

You won't be sure until you've experienced it or someone else has done something similar. I saw a discussion here about a person putting all monitors to sleep when closing the lid. It's possible you might face the same problem, as no two setups are exactly the same.
