Used Windows 10 for a week and faced frequent crashes or minimized games. I opted for a clean install by powering off both drives and restarting the PC. Upon returning, the system displayed "Inaccessible Boot Device" repeatedly, causing constant restarts. Called Microsoft support, who suggested the refresh feature wouldn’t work since it’s from Windows 8.1. Now I’m stuck choosing between reinstalling Windows 8, 8.1, or 10. A friend provided a Windows 8.1 key, so I’ll just update once. Any suggestions to resolve this before reverting to 8.1?

Typically you open your BIOS, choose AHCI instead of IDE, save your settings, and restart the system. Have you attempted this before?

I restarted without issues. Occasionally it fails to start due to RAID drives and sometimes switches to AHCI, preventing access to the SSD.

My drive setup includes an SSD and an HDD. The operating system runs on the SSD.

Verify your SATA configuration. If you set it up in RAID but aren't actually using RAID, you won't be able to boot AHCI or IDE, and similarly for other modes. The same applies if installed in IDE—no AHCI and RAID support—and if installed in AHCI, you won't boot into IDE or RAID. Occasionally the board switches RAID settings unexpectedly.

I've consistently used AHCI settings, but I'm unsure why it's causing issues.

I just installed Windows 8.1 and am checking for any problems before moving to version 10.

I'm thinking about whether the issue might be related to SATA controller drivers not being compatible with Windows 10. Many developers release updates hastily, often after the OS is still in early testing phases, which can cause problems. It might be better to wait until the end of the month or even September for all manufacturers to have their systems updated properly.

I had the same issue yesterday too. I was considering a full system reset because the upgrade from 8.1 kept causing stability problems. I recalled that Windows 10 has a reset option, so I tried it. It just kept looping me with the "Inaccessible Boot Device" error and made my computer unusable. I ended up reinstalling 8.1 and downloading Windows 10 through the Media Creation Tool to perform a clean install. I was concerned the new installation might not recognize the Windows 10 key, but everything went smoothly and Microsoft activated it after setup.
