Hi all,
So my dad acquired a copy of COD-WW2 from a colleague who says the steam key was never used. He handed it over because he doesn’t play games, but the key is already active. (I know, that’s a bit unexpected...)
I mentioned this to him, but his colleague insists he never activated the key.
Now my question:
Can I view the steam profile that triggered the activation?
Or is it possible to reset the key’s ownership when I provide proof of ownership, along with the physical disc and receipt?
I’m not sure if this is feasible, but it might help to ask.
Thanks.

Reach out to Steam to check if there are any options available for the disk. I’m unsure they’ll disclose details about activation, which could cause complications if shared. Attackers often exploit such information.

Usually when purchasing a game through Steam, you have the choice to buy it for yourself or as a gift. The first option requires you to actually provide your sign-in credentials. The second lets you send the key to someone via email. If it was a gift key from a promotion, it might have expired or already been used by many people. This happened to me with codes from an AMD purchase, especially towards the end of the deal.
