I’ll take care of it once I have the cable. Figuring out how to use it will be a challenge—probably needs some kind of putty. This is my first time dealing with server stuff.
I don't require anything complicated—just need basic functionality like a regular switch. I'm heading to grab the cable now. I intend to connect an RJ45 to a serial cable and install Putty using IBM X3650 M3.
Sure, just need something to connect in serial format. Otherwise you can use USB cables or direct serial connections. If you don’t intend to use it much, setting it up is straightforward. The main question is whether the 3000 series switches have ports that are locked in shutdown mode by default—probably not unless you specifically need VLANs. They should work fine without any issues if you don’t require them, but keeping a simple setup is always a good idea.
It could be in ROM mode, or maybe it's just powered on but the fans are stuck at high speed. That makes me think it's trying to load something. Once you connect the console cable, I'm interested to see what happens.
I’ll make sure to keep you updated. We should place an order on eBay, or we might look at a nearby electronics shop.
