I recently acquired two Cisco Catalyst 3750G switches for my home server setup. Unfortunately, I didn’t receive the console cable needed to test connectivity. When I connected my Ethernet from the router into port 1 and plugged my desktop into port 2, there was no link. Switching to my Extreme Networks switch resolved the issue. Can anyone help me fix this or guide me through removing the console cable without it? I want everything to work properly so all ports display green and communicate correctly.

When rebuilding the setup after a reset, I’m uncertain about whether a default IP is assigned or if a console cable is required for the first configuration. Regardless, it’s a good idea to buy one from eBay or another source if you plan to use the switches, as they’re not costly.

I acquired an entire server rack from Gordman's liquidation auction, and they left nothing behind, so I'm still organizing everything and clearing out their configurations.

It's great to hear! The setup looks solid, especially with the phone included.

yeah there is a full VOIP in there, no idea how to work it tho. And also should I remove the stack cables from the back when I do the reset?

It shouldn't matter, and eliminating them wouldn't cause any issues.

I managed to reset it, but the fan speed is now set to maximum and none of the Ethernet connection indicators are working. The only active light is the top-left one, flashing rapidly. It seems I might need to connect the console cable next.

Sure, I recall the old Catalyst switches—by default, the 3k doesn’t include a web UI. If you need assistance, just let me know.
