Hey there! I'm just getting started with PCs, mostly playing on consoles until now. Right now I have a Ryzen 5 2600x with an MSI X470 gaming plus motherboard and a MSI GTX 1070 Ti GPU. I often run into serious memory issues. I currently use two 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2666Mhz modules. I've been considering upgrading to a Ryzen 7 2700x, an MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon, and the Corsair Vengeance RBG Pro 2x8GB DDR4 3200Mhz. Would overclocking be a problem? Is it even necessary at this point? Thanks!
You don’t require any overclocking. Doing so only adds more speed. Downgrading your motherboard to B450 doesn’t make much sense.
1) X470 performs better than B450, so consider upgrading.
2) Overclocking isn't essential; it only slightly boosts gameplay and benchmark scores. It’s mainly used for testing performance. Don’t stress about it.
3) Even without memory issues, swap in the 8x2 RAM module. It should likely resolve your problem. RYZEN works best with high-speed RAM. Most modern systems have 16 GB, which suits today’s demanding games. Try it and see if it helps. If not, other hardware faults might be present.
4) Check both your RAM and storage components. Test any drives or SSDs to ensure they’re functioning properly—look for unusual sounds or overheating.
You're welcome! Your X470 MoBo is a solid choice. For RAM, consider options that match your system's needs—typically 16GB is standard, but 32GB could be beneficial if you're running demanding software. Since your SSD errors seem memory-related, ensure your RAM is compatible and properly seated.
