You could consider internal USB ports instead of relying on the external header. They’re more convenient and avoid needing an adapter.

Yeah, such a cable would be suitable. However, they tend to cost a few dollars. If you have a PCI-E slot, it might be better to purchase a dedicated USB 2/3 controller card. For instance, you can find one here: https://www.amazon.com/DGHAOP-Adapter-US...09Q5PZKZ6/. You can remove the pins from the connector housing and place the USB 2 wires into the USB 3 header. The red wire connects to Vbus, black goes to any ground pin, LP and LP+ to D and D+, leaving you with two functional USB 3 ports on the exterior and another on the interior.

I connected the mini USB to a standard USB A port using a Corsair cable. The USB A on the motherboard worked immediately, so no adapter was needed.
