Hello awesome community,
My brother-in-law is requesting a media system setup for him. He needs to watch 8K videos without editing—just play them. I’m looking for advice on the necessary hardware: what CPU should be suitable? The results from Google are confusing. Do integrated graphics support 8K? How much RAM will it require? And finally, does he really need a dedicated GPU for 8K playback? If so, what recommendations would you have for future-proofing?

Even when the iGPU can manage it, the motherboard must also support an 8k capable port. These systems operate with hardware acceleration, which means the CPU is only lightly involved. The key factor is bandwidth; the system needs to efficiently transfer all this data from the source to the output.
