Hey there, I'm trying to refresh my current system but am on a very limited budget. I have a few options in mind and need to choose the best fit.
Option 1: I5 9400f with MSI B365M MagMortar, 16GB RAM (dual channel), 4GB x 4 sticks at 2400MHz, 256GB NVMe SSD, and a 2.4GB SATA SSD. I'll pair it with an RX570 and CM-MWE 550 80 Plus. This setup is mainly for casual gaming and office tasks.
The main concerns are: I plan to get a better motherboard, more RAM, and a faster SSD. The existing VRM should handle it, but I'm unsure if the 10400F will work well with the H410M. I can't afford a B460M model, and even if I could, it wouldn’t have a VRM heatsink. Also, I won’t be able to upgrade the RAM beyond 12GB soon.
Regarding the CPU, I’m not sure if an i3 10100F would be a better choice than the 9400F. I’m leaning toward the 9400F but want to confirm.
My current setup is an R3 2200G with 4GB x 2 sticks at 2400MHz. I’m asking for your advice on which option to pick. Thanks a lot!

Due to these issues, I’m considering switching to Team Blue this time.
You could go with Intel and stick to the same RAM setup. Since both use DDR4, you can transfer your RAM from your current system. This adjustment should allow fitting a B460 board with better performance or a larger SSD.
