I have some questions about your port-forwarding setup... I need to set up a new protocol on your router to access a game server. The issue is that your router's WAN connects to another device, which isn't yours. I don’t have the login details, and my internet isn’t mine either. Do I still have access to your router’s port forwarding? I’ve heard about NAT and want to understand how it might help. Also, a friend recommended using a VPN for external connections, but I’m only interested in port forwarding and feel confident with that approach. Any advice would be appreciated!

No problem at all. Forwarding a port on your router won't help if the other router's firewall is blocking it.

Share your port with the other router, consider using a cloud server, or ask a friend to manage the server.

Your friends' recommendation of using a VPN depends on port forwarding support. Check if the second router enables UPnP, allowing you to forward ports without a username and password (https://www.howtogeek.com/122227/how-to-...plication/)

It would be reasonable to request approval from the correct device instead.
