NEX/G1 has its drawbacks. Check out why others prefer better alternatives. Top picks instead of NEX650G: links provided for more options.
The only part I found consistent with you is about the XFX... I wouldn’t choose bronze instead of the NEX650G. Plus, all three suggestions compared to the 500b and 600b seem unnecessary and add over $20 each.
AMD CPUs tend to be weak on a per-thread basis. I wouldn't choose one for any open-world game. It costs a lot for a mediocre Bronze PSU. At that cost, opt for a Gold Certified model. The others seem fine. Just replace the AMD with an Intel and use a matching motherboard, skipping the aftermarket cooling solution. You’re unfamiliar with PSUs, focusing mainly on efficiency and price tags. The EVGA B2 is a compact version of the Super Flower Golden Green platform, similar to what the Capstone uses, meaning it’s essentially a lower-efficiency, semi-modular PSU. It offers improved electrical performance compared to the NEX/G1 models based on FSP Aurum, yet still underperforms the original PSU it replaces. Comparing Bronze to Gold isn’t meaningful here. The link provided discusses PSU choices and highlights that investing in a higher-quality unit like the Capstone is justified by better components and performance. Spending an extra few dollars pays off if you notice noticeable improvements, especially when reliability matters.
I possessed the funds to choose a superior power supply... not everyone can afford that. Your deep understanding of PSUs is impressive, that’s what I appreciate. But let's simplify: how do I connect a PSU with both 6-pin and 6+2 pins to a modern GPU, perhaps an Asus 970? I’m not advocating for high-end brands like FSP or Deer in my personal setup, but some folks can’t afford such options. So essentially, you’re correct. But honestly, I wouldn’t go for any of the PSUs beyond the two XFX models you suggested. If I’d limited myself to just those two, I’d really enjoy your post and be ready to act.
