I'm setting up a fresh PC with an ASUS Maximus Vlll formula motherboard. I have three storage options: an M.2 card and two traditional hard drives. When installing Windows from a USB thumb drive, I need guidance on which device should be used for proper storage. I've had some experience with older setups but haven't done a full installation before.

During setup, choose the drive you wish to install. When prompted, select 'custom' and pick your desired drive. They should be fresh drives unless you remove partitions first. If unsure, delete existing partitions before installing and reinstall afterward.

You're thinking about adding Windows to the M.2 slot. It sounds like you want to remove the other drives from the motherboard, install Windows there, and then restart before connecting everything back. That’s a solid method to ensure everything fits properly. On the other hand, the system might display the drive sizes, making it easier to confirm compatibility since you can see exactly what fits.
