You seem really into the asrock steel legend x670, especially since it’s around 299. I’m considering MSI but would love to hear your thoughts! From what I’ve heard so far, the long boot-up time is the main concern, though a few seconds isn’t too bothersome.

Currently, as long as you adhere to the usual steps for updating UEFI on a fresh build, any motherboard except the 65W A620 models should work. For longer-term reliability and ongoing compatibility, opting for higher-end boards like the x670e or b650e chipset options is advisable. The variations between these chipsets are generally negligible for most users, but choosing a b650e or above would be wise for future upgrades.

B650(m) aorus elite ax, b650 tomahawk wifi or tuf b650 are less important because they offer poorer I/O or higher prices. The next level would be async eclk boards starting around $370-$420, including the b650e aorus master, taichi, and x670e-a/f. Async eclk supports X3D overclocking and detailed tuning. You don’t need to worry about chipset choices—GPUs won’t be limited by 4.0 x16 for a long time, and Gen4 SSDs are rarely needed. Also, if your CPU or board fails due to a fault, the warranty covers both components, so I wouldn’t hesitate to stick with trusted brands.

It seems the 7800x3d is quite energy efficient.

GN reviewed the Asus board concerns, noting the high SOC voltage problem, but hasn't disclosed much about the gigabyte issue, which appears to be less common. It seems all manufacturers have already issued updated BIOS fixes for the voltage concern.
