I’m using Windows 10 now after upgrading from Windows 7. For a fresh install, you can either enter your old Windows 7 product key or use the CD key found by your keyfinder. Using the 7-key won’t work since it’s no longer valid. You don’t need to start from Windows 7 again if you’re using the same hardware—just follow the same steps.

It should be possible to simply set up Windows and enable the key afterward, since Windows 10 links the key to the motherboard.

W10 is now active. For future installations, select the choice to bypass entering a CD key—it will be ready once you connect to the internet. Regarding the motherboard: changing the motherboard won’t let Windows start.
