I recently assembled a PC and installed Windows 10. I tried to enable it on the machine but didn’t connect it to my Windows account. Because of some problems, I replaced the motherboard and RAM. After a fresh installation, you noticed... activating Windows with the original key isn’t working since it’s tied to the original hardware. Have I lost my legitimate copy or can I still get it back? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried calling the phone activation line multiple times, and it always functioned properly. It seems to open Run Type in SLUI 4, then prompt for activation.

It's unclear whether you possess an OEM or retail key. Retail keys aren't authentic.

That's a fair observation. It's a retail key, and I managed to resolve the issue. Everything seems to be back on track. Appreciate the guidance—everyone was helpful. Just a quick note about the automated call I had earlier.
