Reputable SSD leading to system freezes on a fresh PC
Hi there, I recently purchased a new PC with these specifications: processor i5-12400, graphics card RTX 3050, motherboard MSI Pro B660m, storage 256GB SATA HIKVISION E100 SSD, and a fresh Windows 11 installation. Over the past week, I've faced minor freezes and reduced performance, especially when compared to my brother's machine. The system occasionally freezes briefly without any apparent cause, but I can force it by running several programs at once—like Chrome tabs, Visual Studio, and Microsoft Word. During these freezes, the SSD response time spikes well over 10 seconds, sometimes reaching around 5000ms with full usage. I struggle to capture screenshots during these events because the system becomes unresponsive.
I've tried several troubleshooting steps so far: turned off Superfetch and search indexing, verified AHCI is enabled in BIOS, updated the BIOS, changed the SATA port, used a different SATA cable, installed the SSD in front of a fan, and even considered upgrading to an NVMe SSD. However, the new SSD still works perfectly on my brother's i5-11400 and ASUS B560 PC with no driver installation needed. It ran smoothly when I loaded a game alongside Chrome, Visual Studio, and Word right after booting.
I'm seeking advice on what else I can try to resolve this issue. Thank you in advance for your support!
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried out my brother's RAM for a bit. I was in a hurry so I couldn't extensively test it but it did seem like it was slightly better if at all. I'll try to test it out more tonight and see if it makes any significant difference. I'll keep you posted.
Identify the operation consuming disk resources. Antivirus activities are often responsible for this behavior.
I checked it thoroughly and determined it isn’t related to the RAM. It still freezes unpredictably even when using your brother’s RAM. I’ve already installed the newest motherboard BIOS update. It seems the issue varies—sometimes it’s a defender function, other times it’s caused by the applications running during freezes. If it were due to antivirus or another background program, shouldn’t it also occur on your brother’s machine with identical SSDs and software? Thanks for your support!
