Report about stuttering, microstutter and frame pacing problems in specific games.
Hello there,
I own a quite capable setup and have been noticing some performance problems while playing games. These began as soon as I upgraded to the Gigabyte M27Q gaming monitor. In certain titles, VRR appears to function poorly, and despite my efforts to mitigate it, nothing seems to work.
Here are the details:
- RTX 3070
- Ryzen 5 3600 (PBO on) with AiO cooler
- Corsair Vengeance 16Gb (2x8) DDR4 3600Mhz
- Seasonic 650W Full Modular PSU
- Gigabyte M27Q 1440p 170hz IPS HDR10 Freesync
- Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB NVme
- TeamGroup 1TB Sata SSD
- 2xWestern Digital 1TB 7200rpm
The game that is most affected is Forza Horizon 5. I’ve enabled Gsync in both fullscreen and windowed modes, and I’ve set up a configuration to allow Gsync with a non-certified monitor. Reports suggest Gsync works well with Nvidia’s display overlay, achieving frame rates between 48-170fps. My refresh rate is fixed at 3x the maximum RR, low latency is enabled in NVCP, and Vsync is also active in NVCP. I’ve tried disabling Vsync without success, as it often worsens performance.
I’m using a certified Display Port cable.
To keep things smooth, I limit my screen’s refresh rate to 60Hz on NVCP. This isn’t ideal since the monitor is meant for Gsync and high frame rates.
My temperatures are normal, and both CPU and GPU stay below 60°C. The airflow is good, and the PC is clean of dust. My CPU cooler has been in use for two months, and my GPU was purchased just two months ago.
Despite this, I’m unsure what’s causing these issues. I recently performed a Windows 10 clean install two days ago, but it didn’t resolve the problem. I can observe stuttering in MSI Afterburner by checking GPU usage and VRAM consumption.
Important: Forza Horizon 5 is installed on my 970 Evo Plus.

Thank you!
Is there an opportunity to turn on gsync on your monitor? Are you currently utilizing DisplayPort?
My monitor doesn't offer an option to do so, but it indicates that Freesync is active when I open its main menu. It's also using a Vesa Certified Display Port cable and connecting it to the central Display Port. I've tested other ports, but the behavior remains unchanged.
I'm experiencing no tearing issues, and when I turn on Nvidia's Gsync overlay, it confirms that Gsync is active. It seems Gsync is functioning partially if that interpretation is correct. The stuttering and frame pacing problems tend to appear more often during periods of higher GPU activity. I describe these fluctuations as "intense" in comparison to less demanding gameplay.
I'm unsure what might be causing the issue. I've updated the drivers (using DDU and disconnecting the Ethernet cable each time a new version is released), but the problem persists consistently.
If you're talking about its listing in Nvidia's Control Panel, it does indicate Gsync compatibility. However, regarding the certification itself, there seems to be none, which aligns with what I've heard. I believe it hasn't been officially certified by Nvidia. Yet, based on what others have said and read, the M27Q functions perfectly as a Gsync compatible monitor, without any problems. That's why I eventually stopped using the one that was causing issues. But I'm not sure anymore.
Everything on your UB report appears fine from my perspective. I'm uncertain about any other issues besides the monitor.
Yeah, I'm not sure either. It's really annoying. I don't know what to do either.
I appreciate the assistance though. Thanks a lot for your reply. I'll keep looking for more posts and updates (even though I've been searching for about a month without success). I plan to update my monitor's firmware, even though I have no idea which version it's running. It might not help, but at least I'll try.
If I manage to find a solution, I'll post it here so others who face the same issue can learn from it.
Thanks again!
Stay here and I bet someone with better knowledge will come up with a solution.
