My GPU often shuts down right away when under heavy stress in demanding games or performance tests. The problem disappears completely when I set the GPU to a 3 percent power limit, whether using Adrenalin or msi afterburner. Is the GPU still functioning properly? Or should I consider returning it? I don’t have another option and also lack an integrated graphics card. What are your thoughts? Please share any suggestions.

When you mention the GPU crashing, it refers to a sudden failure or shutdown of the graphics processing unit. This can happen due to various issues such as overheating, software conflicts, or hardware malfunctions. The exact cause may vary depending on the system and circumstances.

I begin with an intense game session and it crashes after just a minute. It restarts to the desktop, and the adrenalin triggers an unexpected error. It's worth mentioning that this occurs when the GPU is consuming significant power. All benchmarks look normal except for furmark occasionally. I believe this causes a hung d3d error.

There are two potential reasons for this CTD behavior. It could be a driver conflict, corruption, or instability from the GPU at its current frequency setting. I recommend using DDU to reinstall the latest graphics driver from AMD/Nvidia and then retesting. If the problem continues, it may indicate the card requires more power to remain stable. Concerning the CTD, does the screen become black briefly before returning to show the desktop, or does the game crash immediately displaying the error message?

I did precisely that and even included older drivers, but it didn't function properly. Regarding the CTD, it freezes initially before displaying a black screen and then returns me to the desktop. It also previously caused complete driver corruption when using an older, less powerful PSU, which erased amd adrenalin entirely and necessitated a full reinstallation. However, it appears now to be fully stable with no errors when I simply raise the power limit.

It appears your card requires a bit more strength to remain stable on the standard voltage frequency curve. You can keep it or send it back—it's up to you.

I believe I should return it. I tried it today and it crashed again, so I decided to undervolt it which actually stabilized it and even removed drop frames. The problem is, it couldn't last with Furmark—it seems to be its cause, though I can't pinpoint the exact reason. It might last a while, but it eventually crashes.

Does this sound normal to you? I'm curious if installing a new Vbios would help. Just wondering.

Don't worry about changing the vBIOS if you plan to return it. Avoiding it helps prevent any chances of corruption that could damage it.

Hey there! Just wanted to let you know I swapped in the GPU and ended up with a 6800xt speedster—brand new! Overall, everything’s working perfectly now. I was hoping the old one would stop crashing after some time, but even with a higher power limit it still failed. It also managed to exceed its TDP, which is something I’ve never seen before with any of my previous GPUs. Thanks a ton for your support—I really value it! Your friend.
