Report about RAM failure following BIOS update on ASUS X555QG
I need to share the hardware specifics first.
The rig is an Asus Laptop X555QG with an AMD A10-9260P CPU.
The RAM is DDR4 8GB at 1866Mhz.
These components were factory assembled by Asus, purchased around 2015 or 2016.
The issue started when I planned to upgrade with a new SSD and an additional 8GB of RAM.
After searching, I couldn’t find DDR4 8GB with 1866Mhz, except for a DDR3L model at 1866Mhz.
I considered upgrading to a faster option, but the closest was DDR4 2133Mhz.
I bought it with the understanding that higher speeds would work better at lower speeds.
Despite this, everything seemed to function initially—Windows booted, RAM expanded to 16GB, and updates were made.
However, after a BIOS update, the laptop stopped booting, leading me to suspect a corrupted BIOS.
I tried downgrading the BIOS from version 329 to 328, but it didn’t resolve the problem.
I’m seeking advice on whether downgrading to an older BIOS version like 319 would damage the mainboard or if a gradual step-down is safer.
I need to know this before proceeding, as I don’t recall the exact BIOS version that supported the RAM.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

The RAM that came with your laptop is DDR3L. Are you combining different RAM modules? Does your machine have two RAM slots—one for DDR4 and another for DDR3L? Or was the DDR3L memory already installed on the motherboard?
I attempted to lower the BIOS version from 329 to 328 *according to the ASUS website*, but I’m still struggling. Should I proceed by downgrading to an older model like 319? Could this affect the mainboard? I want to be sure before making any changes. I don’t remember the BIOS version that the RAM supports, so I need clear guidance.
Please avoid downgrading your BIOS unless you risk damaging the laptop—otherwise, consider a more gradual approach.
