Report about Gigabyte Z590 UD AC issues
Last summer I upgraded my processor from a 4790 to an 11700k, naturally this meant swapping the motherboard and RAM, but the motherboard is the one that bothers me. I’m referring to the Gigabyte z590 UD AC. There are two main problems I’m still unsure how to resolve, one has been ongoing since installation and the other just appeared today. Let’s start with the first. One of the fans in my system is behaving oddly—it rapidly increases and decreases its speed, sounding like an ambulance siren. The motherboard control doesn’t seem to function correctly for that fan alone. I’ve tried everything, even adjusting the fan curve to zero, but it still spikes to full speed and then drops back down every second. It doesn’t stop when I boot Windows or use the Fan Control settings for both CPU and GPU. Every time I power on, shut down, or wake up, the fan starts making a really annoying noise. This leads to the second issue: I recently updated the BIOS, which turned out to be outdated. It went from version F2 all the way to F7b. Unfortunately, the fan continues its unusual behavior. Meanwhile, some of my drives aren’t showing up in the BIOS at all—something strange. I have two interesting hardware pieces: a Plextor M6E SSD used as a secondary drive, which needs special initialization after installation (usually showing a Plextor splash screen), and a RAID card used for four swappable drives. Both the SSD and the connected drives no longer appear in the BIOS (though they do on Windows). This means my Fedora installation can’t be booted from it. To sum it up, both devices seem to need some post-installation setup to display correctly, but I’m not sure what the exact settings are. The first seems fixable, while the second remains unclear. I’m not sure if the second problem has a solution somewhere I don’t know, but the first one is uncertain. Thanks for your help, Davide.
