Hello everyone. I’ve made the decision to switch things up and purchase new parts for my PC. My current setup includes: MSI B350 gaming pro carbon motherboard, Ryzen 5 1600X, GTX 1050 Ti, 2400MHz DDR4, one SSD and one HDD. The components I’ve bought are: Asus ROG B450-F motherboard, Ryzen 5 3600, RTX 5700 XT, 3200MHz DDR4.

It’s worth mentioning that the only piece I haven’t bought yet is a new motherboard, as it’s currently out of stock. If anyone has a better alternative, I’d be happy to consider it. My main concern is how to upgrade the motherboard safely. I’m familiar with driver updates for the GPU, but regarding the motherboard, do I need to reinstall Windows? Would that erase all my data—photos, game saves, mods, settings, etc.?

I originally intended to just flash the BIOS on the B350, but I’m not very sure that a beta version is the safest option. Plus, I wanted a new motherboard anyway. I’m worried about risking everything just to upgrade the board. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Protect your information by saving it to an external storage device when you're concerned about data loss. Remember, consistent backups are still essential.

It’s recommended to reinstall Windows 10 with new drivers. You might want to back up your data, but you can still retain your files during the process. Make sure XMP is enabled in BIOS to take advantage of 3200 MHz RAM. Edited May 5, 2020 by MaGic77

Consider MSI B450 Tomahawk Max for a more affordable option with improved VRM performance. Backup all data and perform a clean installation of Windows.
