I checked the information but noticed only certain CPUs are compatible. When I search elsewhere, variations in compatibility are reported.

They likely both use 1151, but the 8th and 9th positions need a 300-series chipset like Z390 or B360. That means the 9400F won't fit on an H110 board.

Only the 6th and 7th generation processors will function with that board. The 8th and 9th models share the same physical connector but lack compatible chipset support, so they won’t work. Only the 6th and 7th generation processors will function with that board. The 8th and 9th models share the same physical connector but lack compatible chipset support, so they won’t work. adjustments and functionality differ. matching the socket ensures a proper fit, but powering on won’t work. checked supported cpus for that board and found just two viable choices—upgrading is limited. pick either the i7-6700 or i7-7700. choice is based on cost and performance; the i7-6700 offers solid speed at a lower price. the i7-6700k or i7-7700k would be better only if they match the budget. short version: buy an i7-6700 on eBay for $70 and stop considering further upgrades.

Only 7th generation Intel chips are available, ideally a 7700K for around $80 to $100 used. However, it’s not a significant boost—you’ll still be relying on slow, outdated components. It might be wiser to allocate more funds (about $250+) and upgrade to a new board, along with faster DDR4 RAM, which is now very affordable. Even a 12100F for $110 would outperform any 7th gen processor.

I recently upgraded a friend from an i5-3470 with 8GB RAM and a 500GB hard drive to an i7-3770 with 16GB RAM and a 500GB SSD. Elden Ring now runs smoothly. He’s been using that configuration since 2017, and over time hardware prices tend to drop, making this upgrade worthwhile for a few more years.
