I don't have the full context, but maybe a participant here could assist?

Hello, I noticed a very affordable Intel x5650 CPU and thought about purchasing it to swap in for my i7-920. My current i7-920 operates at 4GHz and HT is turned off to maintain low temperatures. Adding two extra cores would be a major upgrade, and pushing the x5650 to at least 4Ghz through overclocking would make a big difference. My motherboard is EX58-UD3R rev1.0, but the CPU support list doesn’t list X5650: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-...upport-cpu Although the 1.7 revision of this board isn’t officially listed for X5650, it supports many more CPUs, including X5570 and X5607: https://www.gigabyte.com/de/Ajax/Support...pe=Product I’m curious—do anyone have a 1.0 revision of this board running Intel X5650?

It lists several 32nm processors such as i7-980X, 990X and W3680/W3690. These share the same CPUID as the X5600 line and likely use identical microcode. Based on information from the 'General Intel HEDT Xeon/i7 Discussion thread', it seems compatible with certain older X58 boards. However, some users report issues with 2 QPI line CPUs on those boards.

The documentation you're seeking is likely a beta version, possibly containing the number 17. I used a UD5 and 970 before moving to an X5690 E.S. when the beta releases came out. After that, I joined Asus.

You have two beta BIOS versions available; F12i and F12Q (the newest). Should I obtain the latest one? The support page suggests updating the BIOS before changing the CPU. You're looking for a guide on how to update the BIOS. Updated August 7, 2023 by ThalesMML
