Hey there! I understand you're new to this upgrade and want some guidance. Switching from B360 Pro to Z690 and from i7-9700k to i5-12400F is a big change—especially with the cooler included. For backup and reinstalling Windows, it’s smart to follow standard steps: make sure you back up your data first, use a clean installation media, and verify everything before booting up. Let me know if you need more details! Cheers!

Z690 is designed for different overclocking needs compared to the 12400F. The B660 and H670 models are expected to be available soon. If you're planning backups, consider whether you'll replace the existing drives or keep them.

It was available at a good price, so I decided to buy it. It’s a bit more affordable now and lets you upgrade the CPU later if needed. I’m retaining the SSD boot drive and the other SSD with games installed. Just swapping the motherboard and CPU.

For that significant platform update, I recommend moving all personal files to an extra drive and reinstalling Windows to prevent issues. If you own the Z690 or 12400F components, there aren’t many specific tips beyond what I mentioned earlier.

I've swapped out multiple motherboards and CPUs on the same Windows version just because I didn't want to reinstall everything. Recently, my boot drive stopped working and I lost all my files, so I had to start over. It seems like things run smoother now, which makes upgrading motherboard and CPU a smart move.

I'll copy important files from the boot drive, then set up a new operating system. The game drive will remain. For backups, Documents with personal settings should be included, as well as Downloads and Desktop folders—perhaps Video and Pictures if you use them. AppData might accumulate unnecessary data over time, so I wouldn't retain anything there unless you identify specific useful items (I did save progress for some singleplayer games).

So I don’t have anything requiring backup since everything’s in the cloud. I’ll try without reinstalling, but I’ve got installation media ready just in case. Good luck!
