I assembled my PC yesterday, and whenever I open a full-screen app, it takes over 30 seconds or more before returning to the desktop. Got any ideas on how to fix this?

Consider a complete reset. I faced a problem with my laptop a while back where nothing displayed in Windows Explorer, but updating Windows fixed it.

Are there any crashes or issues with launching the apps? Do they appear as a black screen or do they load properly? Have you tested them in a windowed view?

They launch properly, and I can enjoy the game for about 30 seconds before it shuts down. I need to tap the app in the taskbar to resume playing.

The only instance I've experienced this was when Windows 7 altered its theme to improve performance, switching to Windows Basic. You can then turn it off. This occurred specifically with BF3 for me, but you might want to wait before accessing the desktop to check if the message appears again.
