I observed that one of my hard drives isn't showing up. After verifying the connections, everything seems fine. My assumption is either the HDD or a cable is damaged and sporadically functions; Windows alerts with sound when a new device appears, but then the PC slows down.

Certainly, it seems like a possible cable issue is the cause. Also, consider testing another SATA port on the motherboard or checking the SATA power connector if the replacement doesn't resolve the problem.

The replacement of the SATA cable brought the HDD back into detection. At least this is resolved. The outcome remains to be seen regarding the recurring update noise issue.
