Repeated crashes reported. Issues with .dll files and kernel base.
Hello. I hope you're doing well today. About a month ago, I've been facing general system issues in various ways. One is the screen going black for a few seconds before returning, occurring randomly every 1 to 3 hours and sometimes multiple times per hour. I've dismissed it at first because it seemed minor. The other issue started around 10 days ago and involves frequent crashes in many games I play, such as Halo Infinite, TrackMania, Dark and Darker demo, Assetto Corsa Competizione, and more. Most games crash instantly to the desktop without errors, while some take a few seconds before crashing. Unreal Engine games often display "D3D device being lost" messages. What's unusual is that crashes happen even when I cap the FPS to 60, though usually the games remain stable. If I lower the FPS to 240, crashes stop. Things I've tried include disabling the MSI afterburner and Rivatuner, uninstalling and reinstalling GPU drivers via DDU, cleaning the registry for graphics settings, adding TdrDdiDelay to allow GPU recovery, and reseating the GPU after removing and reattaching cables. I'm feeling frustrated because it seems like the system is deteriorating gradually. I was considering a full Windows reinstall but decided to seek advice first. Please help me. Thanks.
I’d begin by checking the temperatures during FPS unlock. Do crashes increase when the system is under more stress? (at that point) All the games appear to behave this way, based on your comments. Have you attempted file backups and a fresh OS installation? (I understand this is extreme, but it could help eliminate other causes.) If the system feels unstable, try switching to a different but reliable power supply. Considering your description, I’d focus on power consumption and a failing PSU first. Given what you mentioned, I’d examine power draw and test for a defective or failing PSU. Would the system operate normally during simple tasks like web browsing? Have you run stress tests on CPU/RAM with suitable software, and also on the GPU? If temperatures remain high, consider replacing the PSU. If the issue continues, a new GPU might be necessary. If you have an older GPU available, test it to check for RAM errors or problems with the CPU and PCI-E lanes.
Yes, when FPS reaches full unlock every game crashes, but capping at 60 FPS keeps everything stable without crashes. This is the final shooting hurdle I’m ready to tackle if nothing else helps. Right now I own a second PSU but am open to getting one repaired or borrowing from someone. I’ll consider it later. For now, everything functions well except during games. I completed one HR stress test on each GPU with FurMark and checked CPU stats via CPU-Z. The data from HWMONITOR shows temperatures are normal. My next move is replacing an older GPU with a new one and testing the rest.
I changed the 2080 TI to an older GPU, a 970, and it has worked well without any crashes. The system feels much more stable, and I haven’t seen the strange black screen problem. It seems the 2080 TI was the real issue. Thanks for figuring it out quickly—I’m disappointed I can’t upgrade soon, but I appreciate the help.
After several attempts to resolve the same problems, the fix came when I revisited a YouTube video. It showed someone addressing identical errors and reapplying thermal paste to the GPU. I checked my 2080 Ti and noticed the thermal paste had dried out significantly. Reapplying it resolved the issue completely. I believe the GPU overheated in a specific area, while overall temperatures remained normal. Disabling the auto fans helped maintain a stable temperature without excessive noise. This solution saved me from considering a replacement GPU.
