I recently installed a new PC and it’s performing well overall. However, in certain games it freezes the screen briefly before switching to Desktop mode, usually without any error messages. Often after the freeze, the display goes black and the system restarts on its own. This is quite frustrating, and I’d really appreciate any advice on fixing it. I’ve observed these issues mainly occur with DirectX12 games. I’m confident my graphics drivers are current, but I’m not entirely sure the 8-pin PSU cable I used to the motherboard for the CPU or the extra 4-pin connection is causing the problem. The Ryzen 7 7700 and RX7900 XT processors run smoothly at under 70°C during gameplay.

Did you connect a PCIe cable to the CPU? It could be related to whether it's a 7700 or 7700X model.

The 8+4 is to allow more power to the CPU for over click / boost clocks. I doubt thats an issue, especially if your thermals are good. What PSU do you have and what wattage is it? You've firmly seated your power to that GPU? It is a thirsty power card, so, consistent power to it would be important. My old AMD Setup would hard shut down and reboot due to my PSU being faulty. Once I replaced it, it was fine. This semi sounds like it could be power related. Obvious things to do would be, remove any over clocks, disable Expo on memory, update your drivers/bios always first. In AMD adrenaline software, ensure you dont have any manual timings set for the card, leave it on default.

I'll review the cable right away, thanks for the details. It's the 7700 non-X model.

The PSU is a solid, straightforward 11.85 kW power supply. I took care when placing the cables on the GPU, but not much attention to the PSU side, so I’ll verify that later. I haven’t adjusted the default settings yet, mainly because of the crashes.

It seems the system relies heavily on GPU performance. Your previous model with an RX6600XT experienced instability, likely due to driver problems. Ensure your Windows settings have the high-performance power profile enabled, and avoid restricting PCIe power.
