Initialization completed, but I still can't utilize it. It indicates the space is unallocated. If I right-click the drive in Disk Management, it offers options such as Convert to Dynamic Disk and Convert to MBR Disk. I can also use "New Simple Volume" on the unallocated area. From the Action menu (also within Disk Management), these actions are available along with creating a VHD. That's frustrating.
New Simple Volume is what you need.
Next, Format and assign it a drive letter.
