Reminder: Hide alert for enabling new functions post Windows update
One of the bothersome aspects of a Windows update is the persistent reminder "let's set up your new features... Inc One Drive and MS 365." after the installation. I recently discovered that these alerts can be turned off: Settings → System → Notifications → Additional Settings. It’s unclear if it functions properly yet, but I disabled them today. For me, those notifications were the most bothersome during updates.
I've handled that issue. On my laptop (which came with the Home version), I noticed it sometimes shows the "let's finish setting up Windows" screen after an update, though less often now. It's unclear if this happens with Pro Edition, but I'll find out once I upgrade from Win10 Pro to Win11 Pro.
Thanks for the feedback. I added those items to my cheat sheet. If Windows offered all customizable settings right out of the box, most complaints about W11 or general Windows would vanish. On the positive side, you can adjust settings yourself. At work we use iPads, and just last week I received an update. Naturally, there are many helpful prompts to follow—especially since I don’t want to agree to any Apple requests. Considering Apple’s approach, they provide a way to disable those notifications. Once configured correctly, Windows operates smoothly without extra steps. It feels similar to Linux in that regard. But out of the box, it’s like running a website without adblock. Edit: my PC was upgraded to 25H2 today. I’m pleased to say I didn’t see the setup prompt asking me to create accounts for 365/onedrive/MS. It was a few minutes of installation, then it was done.
