Remastered driver for Alan Wake game crash issue.
Remastered driver for Alan Wake game crash issue.
I encountered a problem with Alan Wake Remaster (2020) after launching it. The game crashes immediately after the intro video. After checking, it seems related to AMD graphics cards. Someone found a workaround by removing the game's graphics profile in AMD’s control panel, but this post is outdated. For the original version, AW remaster didn’t appear on Adrenaline, which is unusual for most games. I added the game and adjusted settings, but now I get about a second of playtime, then an instant crash that alters my display colors and forces a restart. I reached out to Remedy via their support page, but their guidance was unclear. They suggested contacting Epic Games instead. I emailed Epic, who advised sending the issue to Remedy directly and mentioned they couldn’t assist further. I also tried DXVK, which partially helped but required additional files and a DX12 compatible GPU. Despite updating drivers and submitting bug reports to AMD, the issue persists.
You experienced issues with your 7900XT in DX12, but it works fine in DX11.
You're correct, it's a shame they didn't adopt dx11. It would be good to let the team know—they might already have a fix in mind. I saw this happen in another game, Tryp FPV. The developers told me they'd update the game to support Rx 7000 cards in dx12, and it actually did work. The game also supports dx11.
I mentioned trying to reach the developers, but they’re hard to contact. The remedy only offers support control, which isn’t really what the support epic was meant for—AW R is supposed to be the focus, but they told me it’s just a mess. The game launched in 2020, and I haven’t heard any updates since I bought it about a year ago, so I doubt they’ll add GPU support. I’m hoping someone here might have a solution, but it doesn’t seem to exist.
