Remastered Burnout Paradise: Updated Edition
Remastered Burnout Paradise: Updated Edition
I purchased this mainly because it was priced very low for me, and I didn’t really use it on my PC. After discovering it, I realized it didn’t come with Big Surf Island—something most people experience. A significant portion of the DLC disappeared when EA closed their store. Recently, they released a remaster that includes all the DLC, which is the main advantage. Except for a few high-resolution textures, nothing else has changed. I was expecting some updates during the transition between console and PC releases, but nothing happened. Everything remains unchanged: menus, lighting, materials, graphics settings, even the FOV and LOD are identical to the original 2008 version. It still caps at 60fps, lacks anisropic filtering, and takes a long time to load. It supports dual monitors, which is unusual, and the soundtrack matches what I know. It’s impressive they kept the same music, but EA also held exclusive rights to Porsche for decades. I’m unsure if they ever shut down online servers, though they’re likely still operational. I appreciate getting the DLC for free, which covers most of the cost, but overall it feels like a re-release with missing content and no real improvements beyond what’s already there.
This game is great, but nothing can replace Burnout 3 for me.
The menus feel awkward, and even with a controller they remain cluttered with overlapping prompts for both device. The lighting could have been refreshed to be more engaging, adding deeper shadows, enhancing headlight visibility, and improving material realism. It appears the graphics-heavy vehicles weren't truly updated, leaving them looking outdated and blurry. Adjusting graphics settings might have brought new features to life. While the game isn’t a poor experience, adding DLC offers no meaningful advantage for PC players beyond that. Consensus reached. The open-world road rage format on wide streets didn’t quite hit the mark.
It seems the original setup might have included a configuration file or program for surround sound, which isn’t present on the PC. That’s why I’m limited to stereo audio. Perfect.
