Relaxing on a perfect mobile device?
I recently purchased a new setup (long overdue!) and while dismantling my old one to sell parts, I found myself struggling to understand the current market prices. The prices I see online are astonishing, and it's hard to grasp what they mean. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3iiK--AVik - Gigabyte X58A-OC. Search engines list these models between £400 and £600, but my unit is in great condition—still in the box, bagged, with everything original intact. Is this board really that sought after?
Google refers to the seller in this context. They don’t offer motherboards directly, so you might see listings on sites like eBay where prices are inflated and not available for purchase. Checking US eBay sales shows your board has sold for around 130 USD and 190 USD a couple of times, with X58 boards typically ranging from 80 to 200 USD. Expect lower amounts like 400-600 GBP rather than the higher figures. The used market still shows interest in X58 boards.
Certainly, this shows my doubt. Aliexpress and a few generic refurb sites. Appreciate the response—it adds helpful background!
x58 is an interesting old platform that gathers affordable i7s from past eras for nostalgia. I really enjoyed my i7 920, but I ended up destroying it by flooding the MoBo with my AIO (a helpful tip: swap them more often than every nine years...). I managed to save the RAM and GPU. It seems prices have risen as people prefer cheaper CPUs and these units are harder to find now.
This has been my experience as well. I was thinking about converting it into a media centre placed beside the TV, but a mini or micro drive doesn’t seem feasible. The whole system still operates smoothly, making it hard to justify the effort. It was a mixed feeling when saying goodbye to the old unit.
Played Skyrim on an RX580 that performed almost as well as my present setup. Used to experience frame drops mainly in Riften, but now they’re rare.
