I experimented with the registry configurations and discovered just how influential it is. It can disable the operating system entirely or completely reshape Windows into whatever you desire. My computer runs sluggishly, so I was looking for ways to boost performance as much as possible, and the registry proved ideal. However, it feels overwhelming deciding which settings to adjust since there are numerous options, many of which I’m not even familiar with. Is there any reference or documentation confirming whether most common Windows registry keys are actually active?

Don't mess with regedit without backups—it's a record of app settings. Making quick fixes to speed up your PC via regedit is mostly outdated; you can remove unused explorer menu items or repair broken installers, but beyond that it becomes a big headache. Anything else just turns into a long-term problem.

Working with the registry brings excitement, but knowing its mechanics is essential to do things correctly and avoid damaging the system. The Registry Editor lacks an undo option. A backup is necessary... if you have a functional system to restore from, otherwise fixing it will be difficult. I don’t recommend anyone messing around in the registry. For performance problems, it’s best to figure out the real cause before jumping into unproven fixes online, since most solutions only save a small amount of space and don’t really help.
