Refresh system files via Device Manager settings
Refresh system files via Device Manager settings
I've always had a question. My motherboard is quite old, so Asus doesn't offer updated drivers. I'm curious if updating drivers through Device Manager gets the correct ones installed. I saw some advice suggesting it might install Windows 8 drivers even on Windows 10. If I were to reinstall Windows 10, would it be better to download a few outdated drivers from the Asus site and manage everything in Device Manager?
I use a software named Driver Booster occasionally to search for new drivers for my devices. With six desktops and three laptops at home, managing them all would become chaotic without such a tool. It often discovers outdated drivers you wouldn’t even consider, and it can revert changes if something goes wrong afterward. I find it helpful and think it might work well for your setup too. In my view, updating directly via the Device Manager is quite risky, especially when you’re not certain the drivers are correct.
I agree with you, Driver Booster is usually rare in my system, and the rollback option is useful. It often contains many ads and promotional links, but you can skip them without much hassle, and the software works well afterward. I prefer this approach and am satisfied. I wouldn’t risk it by updating directly.
Avoid using third-party driver software. The device manager isn't reliable for installing PnP drivers. Windows updates on October work, but it's better to use official manufacturer options. Consider trying Windows versions like 8/7 or other drivers from the maker.
Curiously, it featured numerous new drivers for features dating back to around 2004. These aren't genuine products but are designed to mislead buyers into purchasing them. They are PnP drivers bundled with Windows.
