Reflections on Project Cars – Quality Assessment Any Good?
Now that Pcars is unavailable, who owns it and what do you think? Compare it to Assetto Corsa in graphics, physics, audio, car variety, AI, multiplayer features, and performance on PC. Assetto is solid overall, while Pcars has some quirks—like the engine sound during gear shifts that feels off. It lacks weather effects and offers fewer car options. Running it on a PC seems manageable, though I’m still cautious given the feedback I’ve seen. Some issues stand out, like the audio inconsistency during shifts, which breaks immersion for me. What do you think?
as far as graphics go it looks really amazing. tough it feels like it needs a bit more work. the physics are just plain horrible sometimes and in some places the AI is just simply not up to standards. i recommend you wait a bit to see if they update the game a bit. and if it stays like this, it just isn't worth the full price to me
It's great overall, with just a few minor issues that don't stand out much. It's really enjoyable and offers a wide variety of activities. I find it very engaging. I appreciate the different weather options, the diverse selection of cars (even though there aren't many), and the extensive track list. I personally love the game, having purchased it on three platforms—PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The PC and PS4 have shown a lot of promise in realizing what the game was intended to be.
Don't own it yet, but I'll purchase it when it's on sale—likely in December. I'm hoping G27 will be available during Black Friday so I can join the race sim world with it. From what I've seen in the 30 minutes of gameplay on Lirik's channel, the rain effect is quite impressive (very 2D style). That's all I can say.
Here’s a revised version of your review:
Let’s dive into the comparison straight away (no exaggeration here).
Visuals: PCars takes the lead, while Assetto Corsa generally falls short in detail and options. Both still look decent and function well, but the cockpits and models are much better in Corsa—especially in Assetto Corsa.
Physics: Assetto Corsa stands out clearly. It offers more customization, realism, and variety in how it handles different scenarios. In PCars, things feel less dynamic, with many added elements that don’t add much value.
Car models: At first glance, the cars look alike. Some people think PCars is superior, but honestly, it’s not that way. Clutch, KERS, and tire choices in Corsa are impressive—especially compared to PCars, where wet tires feel almost too soft. This is part of why some players question the realism.
Collision handling: Both games struggle, but AC handles crashes better. In Corsa, AI tends to keep going after a collision, which can be frustrating. PCars’ AI tends to stick with them, leading to spins. The turbo pressure changes mid-stint are a nice touch.
Sound design: AC does a much better job here. The engine and car sounds in Corsa are more authentic, while PCars often feels like it’s missing the mark.
Tracks: Assetto Corsa features laser-scanned tracks that are far superior to the project cars’ tracks. PCars has more tracks, but it’s unclear who will win.
Skins: Both games offer decent skin options, though AC generally has better and more varied skins. The 4K texture support would have improved things.
Multiplayer: PCars is still developing its community and rules, while Corsa has a more established scene. It’s hard to say definitively yet.
Optimization: Corsa is much more polished overall. Running it on lower-end systems can be smoother, which is important since many players can’t afford high-end PCs. AC needs better AI tuning too.
Overall verdict: Assetto Corsa wins this round. AC excels in achievements, model accuracy, and realism. PCars falls short in several key areas. While both have their strengths, Corsa holds a clear edge.
If you’re into mods, PCars might not be your best bet, but for pure simulation, AC is the stronger choice.
Great review! You've covered a lot of ground and provided some solid insights. It's clear you're passionate about realistic racing experiences. While many reviews lack depth, your feedback highlights the importance of genuine physics and gameplay feel. It seems this title has landed somewhere between the expectations of fans and the standards of serious simulation enthusiasts. Overall, your experience shows how valuable detailed analysis can be in shaping what games offer.
Its a weird one because project cars is definitely harder then granturismo or forza(closer to gt5 id say) however they are then caught in that weird position because they wanted to cater for the sim racers but then realized "they are leaving money on the table" by not catering for the masses. While i can see their point ill throw pcars in the "grid" pile. its nice and all, graphics are very good however i just cant get motivated to play it as the growth curve isnt there. While the AI is hard i feel as if they are faster then me which normally means they get better tyres as they are pulling times which shouldnt be possible aka the 3:30 issue on la sarthe is smashed with god mode ai. The more i think about it the more it bugs me nevertheless Ac still has a lot of interesting stuff coming to it. Ill just leave this here. Yes i look forward to driving this car more then any game coming in the next two years, drm revival was amazing in rfactor so in Ac it could be even better
