Reflections on AMD's latest XT series
It's common for me to purchase a Ryzen 9 3900X and then discover a newer model has been released. After learning more, I have some reflections. The XT chip isn't entirely new—it's just the top-performing version from the 3900 series. This raises the question: does focusing only on the XT range reduce overall performance? Before the XT era, the 3900X line offered a mix of high and average chips, allowing for great overclocking or decent options. Now, by prioritizing just the best, could the variety in performance decrease? I'm curious about this as I start my day!
The XT chips are produced in more advanced TSMC facilities. They don’t offer much extra performance and are expensive. The situation gets even worse as Zen 3 approaches. I wouldn’t recommend it.
Consider skipping the upgrade if you're not keen on the additional expense.
