Refining the latest Wolfenstein version with fresh ideas.
Refining the latest Wolfenstein version with fresh ideas.
Hey everyone. I purchased this game some time ago and just installed it today. The issue is that idtech5 is using the default POS, and the textures have a lot of popping which causes stuttering and drops my frame rate. It’s not related to VRAM because it only uses 1.3 GB out of my 2GB 270x, and I was hoping you could help optimize it. I experienced the same problems when I got angry in-game, and now I can only play it with extreme effort—it performed poorly on my 5850 when it launched, and the developers haven’t addressed the problem. Thanks, John.
The key features are V sync off (you can enable it via the AMD/NVidia control panel if needed, the in-game version isn't great), triple buffering off (verify in your control panels), screen space reflections, and shadow details. I faced stuttering issues but managed to smooth things out—it's a fun game overall, and it looks nice.
Tech 5 offers solid performance with creative texture scaling that works across various systems. However, the market shifted away from these improvements. Running smoothly even at 4K on my R9 290 is impressive. Consider sharing a screenshot of your current configuration. Lower the PPF value to 16, which should help with brightness issues. Enable texture compression, and disable ambient occlusion and screen-space lighting unless needed. Reduce shadow resolution—possibly due to VRAM limits, textures may need streaming from storage. If VSync isn't active, enable it and deactivate it if it's on. Set texture resolution to 8192 for higher detail, but be prepared to adjust other settings accordingly.
It would be ideal if they resolved the texture pop that has persisted since the game started.
