Hi, during a random check of my PC, I noticed two pins on both sides and found one that was different. After removing it, I left the jumper on my desk without knowing what it did. When I turned on the computer, it prompted me to put it back. Now I’m unsure if unplugging it was a mistake or if there’s any issue. Should I be concerned?

I never encountered that before but from the way the message sounds, it seems you only lost the ability to change system password. Anyway if you need a jumper : https://www.amazon.com/ZYAMY-2-54mm-Jump...=8-10&th=1 A local brick & mortar computer store may have some lying around that they'll give one for you for free if you ask nicely.

It seems you took out the "clear CMOS" jumper, which works similarly to removing the clock battery. Since the power source is gone, you can't configure a password or set the time, as these defaults reset on each shutdown without power. Reinsert the jumper and the system should function properly.

This appears to be the BIOS/boot password jumper setting, not the CMOS one. The warning only references passwords, not dates or times.

The jumper being removed stops the process of remembering a password, which is why the system warns you can't set a new password without it. Installing the jumper acts as turning on a circuit that enables saving passwords and related functions; it must be present.
