Referring to 3900x and 3950x
I'm looking for typical performance numbers for chips running at 4.5 GHz or higher. Some reviews mention around 4.1 to 4.3, but I want to understand the average speeds for B450 and above.
Stock speeds when under load were something I was curious about. I wasn't really focused on the chips' maximum potential but rather on typical real-world performance. Just looking to see what others reported as a standard baseline for CPU speed in everyday situations.
Zen 2 responds differently based on load and temperature conditions. It’s been running on a 3950X with DOCP/XMP disabled for about ten minutes of web browsing. There’s little impact on performance, so it doesn’t maintain boost clocks long unless I switch to a new page. This model is among my 3900Xs PBO/DOCP setups where I’m using only the GPU, limited to two cores, though average speeds are noticeably higher.
It seems you're curious about the typical clock speeds on Ryzen 9 processors, especially how they relate to boost performance. That chart you mentioned looks helpful. I'm happy to hear you're considering the 3950 chip—you'll also look good with the 3900. Upgrading older components really matters when evaluating value. I believe it will pay off overall. With better technology, I'd expect more flexibility for gaming, editing, and content creation.
I was just looking into typical speeds you'd expect from these chips in everyday use. While core count matters, I wanted to understand how stable the clocks would be in real-world scenarios. Right now my FX 8370 performs well, but I plan to upgrade to a 3950 once I get the motherboard and RAM ready. I also intend to move my Phenom setup to a 3900, since I have at least one slated for server use and possibly more. For video editing and content creation, I might need higher memory or bigger SSDs. The main concerns are choosing the right cases for each CPU, whether to use higher RAM or faster SSDs, and possibly swapping in NVIDIA graphics cards if Navi becomes too demanding. I’m mainly worried about the power supply—maybe a RX 580 or 590 would be better if Navi gets heavy. Overall, I’m happy with my current setup but keeping an eye on these factors.
Never encountered version 4.7; possibly due to X470 or insufficient 1.0.0.4 BIOS support.
