Reduction in frame rate or stuttering effect
While observing games, my frame rate occasionally drops briefly, sometimes pausing for a moment or two, while audio remains mostly smooth in more demanding GPU scenarios. The GPU drivers are current, and using an overclock (previously GPU tweak 3) involved DDU during the switch from team red to team green after rebuilding the system.
Have you considered deleting overclocking tools such as MSI Afterburner or GPU Tweak 3? Make sure they aren’t running in the background and restart your PC (or uninstall them) to see if the issue persists. The problem isn’t the game itself—it’s likely the graphics settings causing it. GTA V struggles with anything above 178 FPS, which can trigger freezing and stuttering.
Did you play your games on PSU, RAM speed and storage? The 178FPS is pretty fast. When it freezes, what's your FPS? Also, how do your idle temperatures compare to peak temperatures?
Psu is an Asus 850W gold with 4000MB RAM. For most of my larger games I use a 980 Pro and a 980 Evo. I mainly play online flight sims like DCS and MFS, though I don’t aim for 120FPS online—just occasional drops and stutters. Removing all overclocking software helped improve stability. CPU temperatures are around 61°C and GPU is similar. Both stay under load when DCS runs.
CPU handles memory speeds up to 3200MHz. At 4000MHz it’s already optimized and doesn’t require extra effort. Performance improves only slightly from memory gains—about a tenth. For simulators, a stable 64GB RAM is preferable over an unstable 32GB at higher speeds. Let's tackle the RAM issue first.
Disable VSync and ensure maximum performance is selected for power in NVIDIA settings. Find the optimal 2022 NVIDIA configuration. Limit frame rate to the supported monitor. Disable Freesync or GSyn if active. Enable frame rate in games to confirm no artificial frame drops are occurring.
Ram is a set for corsair vengeance pro, featuring stock speeds of 4000mhz c18 in an 8*4 setup.
