Reducing CPU strain through 4K screen playback
I use an old 40" 1080p screen with an RTX 3060 and an i5-8500T. The main bottleneck at 1080p is significant, and some recent titles like Atlas Fallen only utilize the GPU at around 55%. Upstairs we have a 55" 4K display, so I’m considering swapping it for the one I’m using now. Will this move the processing load from the CPU to the GPU? Can the 3060 manage 4K if I lower the graphics settings to medium? Reducing graphical fidelity should help, and DLSS should assist in supported games as well.
There isn't any shifting of workload happening. CPUs and GPUs perform distinct functions. It's possible the GPU could become the limiting factor, lowering the CPU's burden, though this would only occur if the game runs more slowly overall.
The bottleneck section highlights key differences. This comparison focuses on an Intel i5-8500T against newer AMD Ryzen models and other AMD APUs. The 8500T is suited for compact devices or powerful laptops, while the others are designed for full desktop CPUs. For a fair assessment, consider upgrading your entire setup, including RAM, as even with DDR4-2666, significant performance gains are still limited on the Intel side. If you're using a desktop, verify your power supply capacity before proceeding.
Pretty much this. You wont gain magical power boost, it just makes the load balance looks better as theorized.
