Reduced GPU demand with increased CPU activity in Cod WZ
I recently switched to a new graphics card this Christmas and installed it properly. It works well in other games like Overwatch, Red Dead Redemption 2, StarCraft 2, and GTA V, but my main game is Cod MW WZ. I usually get around 70fps on ultra at 1080p with low frame rates of 30fps. My GPU usage in Afterburner is about 40% max while my CPU stays near 95-99%. My setup includes an i7-4790 3.6GHz processor, 16GB DDR3 RAM, and a RTX 3070 with a 750W power supply. I’ve been trying to fix this issue since Christmas but haven’t found a solution. Most people on Reddit think it’s due to a bottleneck or poor game optimization. It would be great if I could play Warzone at 144+ fps on ultra settings next year. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
When your CPU runs at full capacity, the main solution is replacing it. Overclocking might offer some minor improvement, but it won't be significant. Right now, your CPU is limiting performance.
You can't overclock a locked 4790 without utilizing Z boards capabilities. Similar to MCE and Bclock small improvements, plus enhanced RAM performance. The processor is limited. Expect around 75-120fps (not steady 120fps+) when using Low settings with Medium-High textures and adjusting the ini file for VRAM allocation along with other recent tweaks. Use Nvidia DSR, set simulated 4K pixel counts, adjust frame distances, and experiment with sharper details.
To resolve the problem, you should consider a high-performance CPU that matches your system's requirements.
I suggest creating a new thread in the CPU subforum for this discussion.
