Reduced GPU demand in Dota 2
Reduced GPU demand in Dota 2
Hey everyone! I'm facing some issues with Dota 2. My GPU usage stays around 50-60%, but I don't see the full performance from my graphics card. Early game FPS is steady, but it drops to below 100 and the game feels slow later on. It only happens when playing Dota 2. Other high-end games work fine. I've tried changing both GPU and CPU settings, then switched back to defaults, but the problem persists. Any tips or solutions would be super helpful! Thanks a lot! By the way, here are my specs: i7 3770K @4.4GHz, MSI GTX 1060, 6GB RAM, Corsair CX750M.
Dota 2 isn't a tough game, which explains why your GPU is only at 50% usage. For FPS, does your screen have a 100Hz refresh rate? If not, the frames are likely being wasted. I'm not sure what's reducing your FPS, but you could check temperatures, keep MSI's afterburner on while playing, and monitor temps and clocks when FPS drops.
Hi! Thanks for the update. I only have a 60Hz monitor. The issue is that when FPS drops to around 70-90, the game becomes slow. I noticed GTX 1060 with 6GB RAM achieving 150-200 FPS in Dota 2 benchmarks. I also checked the CPU and GPU temperatures—they stayed between 60°C and 70°C.
I recommend using Vsync and limiting the frame rate to 60fps because your monitor runs at 60Hz, which makes things look much smoother. I used to think you needed over 120fps for Dota, but my CPU wouldn’t handle it—you’ll need a faster CPU with better single-core performance and RAM speed to maintain steady 150fps in Dota 2. It’s not worth it; I actually prefer the game with capped frame rate plus Vsync.
