Currently, my brother's system runs an unofficial version of Windows 8.1 since I obtained the license from him—it was a scam. I have a working Windows 7 copy. There seems to be a simple method to revert to Windows 7 without needing backups or formatting the drives.

It's smarter to save vital information from the computer and then prepare the hard drive. This ensures a fresh setup for 7 with no unwanted files lingering.

If you manage this, save the information and perform a fresh setup of Windows. It’s preferable, though it requires additional time.

The link that DimasRMDO posted doesn't apply to you. This is downgrade LICENSE. You said you have Windows 7 license already. You can't downgrade Windows. You need to backup the files, format and re-install Windows and all your brother programs. There is no easier process.
