It occurred after I installed the Windows update before leaving. Upon returning, I removed the updates thinking they were causing the CPU to hit 800 MHz. It functioned briefly then the issue repeated. The CPU speed returns to its turbo setting of around 4.6 GHz when closing the game. Recently, I upgraded with the 10700, MSI MPG Z490 Pro Gaming, and Arctic Freezer 34 duo cooler. My system ran smoothly for over a week until now—any suggestions on resolving this?

Download HWInfo64 and monitor your temperatures during gameplay and other tasks with low clock speeds. You might be experiencing thermal throttling. Since you just installed a new cooler, it’s possible the thermal paste wasn’t applied correctly or the cooler wasn’t installed properly. Take the cooler out and inspect the paste coverage on both the IHS and the heatsink. If it doesn’t fully cover them, the problem is likely there. Clean the cooler heatsink thoroughly, reapply the thermal paste after removal, and ensure the cooler is securely tightened. The chip can handle up to 50 pounds of force because the cooler must be firmly seated.
I’ve kept my temperatures steady during gameplay for about 10 to 20 minutes, usually between 30 and 50 degrees. My readings are quite normal. I updated my CPU, cooler, and motherboard, all of which are brand new. I’m going to double-check if I might have messed up the thermal paste application, but it’s been running smoothly for over a week so far. I’ll definitely give it another try.
Verify your system uses the power-saving energy mode in Windows. The setting named "game-mode" is automatically activated and can negatively impact game performance.
