Hey, a few days ago I bought Battlefield 1 and began playing single-player. Everything felt smooth at high settings with some adjustments up to ultra, achieving around 60 FPS. However, in multiplayer it started lagging. I lowered all my settings except for AA, but still experienced drops to 40 FPS or even 30. When I checked MSI Afterburner, my CPU was maxed out while the GPU ran at 30-40%. My specs are: CPU i3 4160, GPU GTX 960, 8GB DDR3, and I was playing on an SSD. Now I realize my CPU isn’t great, but Battlefield 1 is the only one showing a bottleneck. Other games like GTA V run smoothly while this one struggles.

Your i3 is occupied with many tasks besides powering your GPU. Multiplayer demands significantly more CPU power compared to singleplayer. Upgrading to a stronger processor would be beneficial. An I5 should suffice for most games.

I experienced the same issue before a fix, now resolved. I also had multiple instances of 100% CPU usage (often 85-100%, varying with scene complexity, generally high load). The main problem was MP not working. After checking Reddit, the key step to get it right was: open Nvidia Control Panel → 3D Settings → choose your game from the dropdown → go to Pre-Rendered Frames (default setting works best) → set it to "1". This increased my GPU usage on i5 from 60-80% to 90-98% when Pre-Rendered Frames were enabled. After installing new drivers, frame rates dropped to 50fps-70fps with 60%-80% usage, then returned to normal 90-100%.
