My graphics card is a GTX 1070, and I’ve replaced my processor from an i5-4690k to an i7-4790k. Consequently, my frame rate has decreased significantly; for instance, my i5 achieved approximately 80 frames per second in most games, while the i7 now averages around 55 fps. Moreover, the i7 is limiting the performance of the GTX 1070, with the GPU operating at roughly 40% to 50% under heavy load, while the CPU reaches 100%. When the i5 was initially installed, both components were operating at similar performance levels. I updated my motherboard’s firmware before installing the i7. My display resolution is 1920x1080 at a refresh rate of 144Hz. I could use assistance in determining ways to improve the i7’s frame rate performance.

Is the processor speed accurate, and what’s the temperature level? Certain games may perform more effectively when hyperthreading is disabled, though this typically results in a minor improvement rather than the substantial change you’re observing.

I usually avoid modifying a motherboard’s basic input/output system (BIOS) unless it's absolutely crucial and there are significant issues, or if the update is specifically recommended for new equipment. This is particularly important currently because numerous microcode updates have been released to address vulnerabilities in processor security, potentially impacting speed.

I haven’t personally experienced substantial performance degradation from these updates. However, I'm curious if you might be experiencing instability due to overclocking, temperature problems, or another factor. What type of cooling system are you utilizing? Even using older graphics card drivers for newly released games can lead to a decrease in performance, and it's always important to install the necessary DirectX and Visual C++ files for each game. Consider running a malware scan with software like Malwarebytes to rule out any malicious threats.

The central processing units were overclocked at 44 MHz, and their temperatures remained below 68°C.

The two processors were overclocked at 440 MHz, and their temperatures consistently remained below 68°C. I believe you intended to write 440 MHz, as 44 MHz would be effectively useless.

My assessment was 4.4 GHz. Regardless, to test, I reset everything to default speeds and observed the results—this would rule out overclocking as a factor.

I interpreted it as 4.4 GHz. It’s possible, but 440 MHz seems like a more probable mistake. If I'm unsure, I inquire.

The central processing unit and graphics card were operating at their default speeds, without any modifications. The i7 processor reached a clock speed of 3996 MHz under heavy use, with a temperature of 48°C. The GTX 1070 graphics card’s core clock speed was 1911 MHz, with a load of 34%, and a temperature of 53°C. The average frame rate was approximately 39, slightly lower due to the absence of overclocking.

Is the enhanced mode enabled within your computer’s firmware settings? Did you overclock the Intel i5 processor before removing it, and did you restore the BIOS to its original configuration afterward?
